Kate Rogers

Kate studied music at Cardiff University, where she played the organ at St. David’s Cathedral and was Principal Percussionist for the University Symphony Orchestra. Whilst at Cardiff, Kate studied composition extensively and received inspirational tuition in conducting and Musical Direction. She has played percussion for a number of shows, including Oliver!, The Sound of Music, Jesus Christ Superstar and Sweeney Todd and was also kit player for a performance of Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story at the Wales Millennium Centre.
She held the post of Musical Director at Trinity URC for three years before moving to Cornwall and was Musical Director and composer on a new, professional production of Twelfth Night in 2017 at the Royal William Yard, Plymouth. Most recently, she was Musical Director for Sterts Theatre and Arts Centre’s family production of Bugsy Malone.
In training to be a teacher, Kate uncovered a passion for working with challenged children leading her to study Psychology at Cambridge University. She has just embarked on an MSc in Educational Neuroscience at Birkbeck College and University College London in order to pursue research in child development, particularly Special Educational Needs. Kate feels inspired to use the performing arts to improve the outlook of many children’s lives and left her job as a teacher to establish the Early Energy Centre in order to create an inclusive environment where all young people can benefit from experiencing the performing arts.
